Houston Bangladeshi Community organized an elaborate program with other local community organizations to observe the International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2004 at Harmann Square, the reflection pool in front of the City Hall. Hundreds of people from different ethnic group participated in the morning procession.

The program was highlighted by cultural presentation from Bangladesh Association, Tagore Society, Nepalese Association, El Salvador Raices de Mi Tier, Casa Argentina, Voices Breaking Boundaries, Chinese Community Center and Ghazal by Nausha Asrar. Among other guests City councilman Mr. Gordon Quan, city councilwomen Mrs. Ada Edwards, Mexican Consulate, Mr. Hubert Vo from Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Vicky Garnett Keller, Rev. James Nash from African American History/Culture, and many others were presented to observe the day. Proclamations from Honorable Houston Mayor Bill White and Congressman Chris Bell were presented to proclaim the day.
