Bijoy Dibosh Held on Jan 2 |
Bangladesh Association is sponsoring a cultural event on Saturday January 2, 2010 in order to commemorate the ever-blazing historic Bijoy Dibosh of Bangladesh.
Please do come to celebrate; join in to participate in this glorious Victory day commemoration. See you all there.

| Bijoy Dibosh 2008 |
Bangladesh Association of Houston (BAH) celebrated the Bijoy Dibosh 2008 at the Durga Bari Sur Auditorium on the evening of 20 Decmeber 2008. The bangla kobita recitals, cultural presentations by local artists and by artists from Austin were well-organized and very much enjoyed by the audience. The night of the celebration ended with a solo musical performance by Shayek.

| BAH Election 2008 |
Bangladesh Association Election Commission announced the election results during the Victory Day program on December 20, 2008. According to the election commission result the following members were elected for the year 2009-2010 as the board of directors of Bangladesh Association.

Townhall Meeting at Maharaja:
A Town-Hall meeting was held last Sunday October 26, 2008 at Maharaja
Restaurant for the upcoming FOBANA in 2009 in Houston. About 100
community members attended this meeting. Afzal Ahmed started the Town-Hall meeting by welcoming everyone. Respected Dr. S. Alam and Dr.
Khandaker M.A. Rahman (Sir) gave short speeches. Bangladesh Association has passed a
resolution to create an independent and autonomous FOBANA "Houston
Host Committee" which will oversee all aspects of FOBANA. Such a move was taken to
include everyone in the community regardless of their affiliation to
one organization or other.

| International Mother Language Day |
Houston Bangladeshi Community organized an elaborate program with
other local community organizations to observe the International
Mother Language Day on February 23, 2008 at the Bangladesh-American
Center. Hundreds of people from different ethnic group participated
in the day long program. This is the first time we have celebrated
large scale program at the Bangladesh-American Center and we are
grateful to all who made this possible.
Representative from Congressman Nick Lampson, Mr. Adeel Zeb,
Councilman Peter Brown and many others join in the traditional
morning rally. Proclamation from Congressman Nick Lampson was
presented to proclaim the International Mother Language Day.
The program was highlighted by cultural presentation from
Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. Bangla Documentaries were shown to highlight the rich
cultural heritage of Bangladesh. The biggest success of the program
was children art competition where more than 55 kids participated in
three different groups.

| Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Houston |
Our pride 2006 noble peace prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus was in Houston on January 14, 2008.
Our sincere appreciation is for Dr. Yunus for giving us an opportunity to meet him.
We also thank World Affairs Council of Houston and Public Affairs Books for organizing such a great program for Dr. Yunus.

| Boishakhi Mela-Mobile Consulate, May 10 2008 |
Bangladesh Association organized another history making program Boishakhi Mela on Saturday May 10, 2008 at Bangladesh-American Center along with Mobile Consulate Office. Consulate office was real busy providing services from 10:00am to 11:00pm. The services included Renewal of Passport, 'No Visa Required' for US Passport, Attestation of Power of Attorney, Issuance of Passport, Lost Passport replacement and Dual Nationality.
Bangladesh Association provided an efficient office environment where photocopy machine, Instant Passport Photos, Notary and other services were accommodated to have a well-organized service for our community.
Boishakhi Mela started at noon with authentic Bangladeshi food, Boutiques, Booths, Music and fun for all ages. Colorful cultural presentation started at 8:00pm. More than 600 of you made both Mobile Consulate and evening program successful. THANK YOU!

| BAH Fall Bridge Tournament 2008 |

BAH Fall Bridge Tournament 2008 was held on November 15 at the Bangladesh American Center (BAC). We really acknowledge and appreciate the tremendous support offered by every participants. The tournament started in a very adverse condition but eventually was a successful one. Thanks again to all the participants. A Mannan Talukder & Zia Khondker came out as the Champion with 52.0 points. The Runnuers-up were Newas Ali & Mashiur Rahman (Mayeen) with 49.0. The other participants were Faizul Islam & Muhammad Nazir (41.5), Khandaker Rahman (Sir) & Bimal Haldar (41.0), Sajedul Chowdhury (Sawgat) & Mostafa Hasan (39.5), Hamid U. Ahmed & Golam Mostofa (Echo)(38.0), Asif Karim (Sani) & Kazi Waliar Rahman (37.5) and S. S. Newaz & M. Mahbubul Islam (Chanchal) (37.5).
